Amon Amarth launches new video

The title track from Amon Amarth’s  ninth studio album “Deceiver Of The Gods” has an official video that features clips from the upcoming film “Northmen – A Viking Saga”. Tom Hopper, Ryan Kwanten, Ken Duken, and frontman Johan Hegg star in the movie.

  • Valli (Johan Hedd’s character) is a very experienced warrior and has a strong bond with his younger brother Bjorn. Valli looks brutal with his broad back and leather-dominated clothing. He has already experienced and survived a great deal. His face is full of scars

NICK HOLMES (Paradise Lost) will join Bloodbath

“All star band” Bloodbath announces Nick Holmes of Paradise Lost as their new vocalist.

  • “Ever since I got into Lost Paradise back in 1990,” says Jonas Renkse, “Nick Holmes has been one of my favourite growling vocalists out there. He was always audible and articulate but still deep and definitely morbid. It is a great pleasure to work with him some 25 years later after I was introduced to his thunderous roar!”Metal Hammer Magazine

Wacken 2014 – the review

Finally home after 5 intensive days in Germany. It’s time to come out of hibernation and to share the experience of this year.

If you do not like crowds then last week in Wacken was the wrong place to be. This year, Wacken had 92,000 people. While it is fantastic to see so many rockers in the same place, the crowds can be very stifling. Of course, (almost) everyone well-behaved, polite, but the magnitude of seeing 92,000 people in black together can overwhelm you.

Skyline: I was told that this band is made up of Wacken founder and his friend and that they kick off the festival every year. Covers of Manowar, Maiden, Van Halen, AC / DC , it was lots of fun and sing along.

Hammerfall: The band came from a break of two years with a special set, consisting of only of the “Glory To The Brave”. They started with “child of the damned” So as you can understand that the songs weren’t played in the same order as the on the album.

Biff Byford, has a voice that can take your breath away. Not a big fan of Saxon, but I always rejoice when hear live songs like “Crusader”, “Denim and leather”, “Princess of the night ‘, etc. Saxon has been one of the best performances at Wacken this year.

Accept: It’s hard to explain how good they can sound live with the new singer.Tornillo and Wolf Hoffman are a great combo. I would even go so far as to say that in times it sounds better than Udo. If I would not be a King Diamond fan, I would have said that they were the best band at Wacken this year.

Skid Row started playing already at 11 in the morning and they were the first band that I saw on Thursday. I did not hear much new stuff and they sounded quite ok. Of course, I know that Johnny Solinger’s no Sebastian Bach, but it was nice to hear songs like “When the youth Gone Wild” or “Slave To The Grind”.

Children of Bodom sound good but unfortunately i’ve seen them a little too often so I can’t appreciate their gigs as much as I did some years ago. Well played but nothing special…

I’ve never been a big Carcass fan but I heard only good things about their new album. They played at the same time as Motorhead and Hell, two bands that I appreciate more. Leaving aside the ironies about Lemmy, Carcass did a very nice show combining many of their songs from their grind period with songs from the last album.

Lemmi’s definitely not in his golden years, but considering his health problems it is impressive that he can stand on stage and do a show from beginning to end. Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell were on fire as usual, greatly offsetting the lack of vigor of Lemmy ages suffers of.

Slayer was a very unpleasant surprise. Araya’s voice does not age well and the bad sound (mostly due to strong winds) gave the feeling of like a very weak rehearsal. However, many fans seemed to be in ecstasy, judging by the mosh pits.

King Diamond embodies perfection and that’s what he brought at Wacken this year. All bias aside, King and his wife Livia sounds better than ever. Add a fantastic stage with more details and a morgue/cemetery atmosphere and then you can understand why King Diamond was the best concert of the year. The set ended with two song Mercyful Fate, “Come to the sabbath” and “Evil“ surpassing all expectations.

Although I did not watch the entire Wasp gig, I couldn’t stop thinking about the way Blackie Lawless looks noawdays. But if you can ignore the appearance and their attitude then you will surely enjoy a show Wasp. But I could not …

It has been exactly 10 years since I had seen my first Arch Enemy gig on the same stage and several things happened meanwhile. Angela Gassow left and 2-3 guitarists later, we have an almost complete new line up.
Unfortunately songs that sounded best were the old ones, proving that the new singer may sound good, but the songs from the new album are the real problem.

Behemoth were exactly as I had expected. Intense and flawless, they put a heavy set with a lot of fire and blood!

Watching Devin Townsend felt like going to a stand up comedy show. Although I like even the stuff he released with his solo project I miss the image he promoted back in Strapping Young Lad. As for the show at Wacken, it was 100% Devin Townsend, a lot of poo and alien-jokes.

The Emperor reunion has been something I’ve been looking forward to since their last gig at Wacken back in 2006. They performed the entire “In the nightside eclipse” and even though I like that album a lot I think that it’s a bit overrated to play an entire album, especially when Emperor play as seldom as they do. It was really cool that they ended the set with a Bathory cover.
Kreator ended Wacken this year for me and although they played almost the same setlist as just two years before, I have enjoyed seeing them live again. Mile held fewer political speeches and played songs from the “pleasure to kill” album that they usually do not play. A very pleasant surprise indeed!

Although this year’s Wacken just ended the 2015 edition is already sold out and the first names are already announced:

Running Wild – only show 2015
In Flames
In Extremo
U.D.O. – With orchestra
Sabaton

Opeth announces an exclusive concert in Stockholm in November and their European Tour

Opeth Wacken 2012

It is far from an exaggeration to say that Opeth has become one of Sweden’s most renowned and influential bands in the world. In all categories. With the new album “Pale Communion” just around the corner, we can now announce that the band will also perform a concert in Stockholm, Sweden at Münchenbryggeriet on Saturday 15th November. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, August 15 at 9:00 am.

Sweden’s true pride in Opeth is that they have always been steps before the rest of the metal world. They never cease to challenge themselves through difficult and experimental ways. Without ever losing themselves. Opeth stands in a class of its own with their heavy, progressive metal and elements from many other genres. Timeless, yet constantly evolving. In June the “Metal Hammer GodsAwards” took place in London where Mikael Åkerfeldt, the frontman, songwriter and singer of Opeth received the prestigious award “The Golden God Award”.

Opeth was formed back in 1990, but with the acclaimed album “Ghost Reveries” from 2005, it is clear that the band took to a whole new level and won new fans worldwide. Three years later, this was followed up with the masterpiece “Watershed”. An album that became an obvious success in the USA, but also in the rest of the world, reaching the top 20 in the charts in Japan, Australia and Canada. This was followed up with the band’s tenth album, “Heritage” released in 2011. Once again they outperformed themselves with their most successful creations so far. In the United States the album went straight to number 19 on the Billboard chart.  Such an achievement was for many years the best a Swedish artist reached.

Next year is the 25th anniversary of Opeth as a band. However, there is no reason to wait with the party so long since Opeth will release the highly anticipated album “Pale Communion” on the 25th of August this year. This fact together with the joyful news that we now have the chance to see the band live in Stockholm, in the autumn, makes us start the celebration immediately.

Wacken 2015 Sold Out

We barely got home from this year’s Wacken Open Air and the festival releases the unbelievable statement that the 2015 WOA IS SOLD OUT!

What could have made the metal fans go on such a crazy shopping spree: the reunion of Savatage, the exclusive European show of Trans -Siberian Orchestra, Running Wild, In Flames, In Extremo, U.D.O. – special Orchestra show, Sabaton, Amorphis – Special “Tales From The Thousand Lakes” Show, Death Angel, Powerwolf, Ensiferum, Kataklysm, Cannibal Corpse, Sepultura, Thyrfing or all of them put together. With so many band names released in one go I am sure the organizers were planning for total annihilation.

Hope you managed to get your tickets but if not keep an eye on all chances you may get to grab one!

Here is the W:O:A statement:

For the 10th time in a row Wacken is sold out! The deconstruction of the W:O:A festival site has just begun and the last Metalheads have left the Holy Ground less than 24 hours ago. Never had we expected that the amazing rush from the last year could be overcome that easy but you did it!

When the pre-sale started, the amount of visitors was four times higher than in 2014 and after the 10.000 X-Mas Tickets were sold out within a very short time, we proceeded with the sale of the regular3-DAY-ALL-IN Tickets but the rush was unstoppable and after 12 hours it was over.

ALL 75.000 TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT – THANX FOR YOUR SUPPORT, METALHEADS! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!

For those who haven´t bought a ticket yet there are the following option:
Due to the masses of orders we assume that there will be several doublings and reversals for example due to missing payments after the deadline for paying is over. As soon as these reversed orders are filtered we will bring this small ticket contingent back on sale with a waiting list. This waiting list will be online soon and we will inform you in time when it will happen. Currently it is NOT POSSIBLE to enlist on the waiting list – neither via phone nor online.

Fifteen bands for the billing have been already announced including several special and exclusive shows as well as high-class acts. As every year we have made every effort to provide a terrific billing!
Together we will turn the 26th Anniversay of Wacken Open Air into the biggest metal party on earth!

We will also offer various online features– so have a look at www.wacken.com or follow us on our official facebook account www.facebook.com/WackenOpenAir.official

Although there are 12 months left until the festival starts and we are still busy with the deconstruction, the arrangements of course are already running. We can´t wait until next August. The tickets will be shipped (depending on the payment receipt) as soon as possible!

Important!!!: Tickets you hitherto ordered at Metaltix will be certainly delivered if you received an order acceptance! Our colleagues at Metaltix are working hard to process all orders in time.
Please be aware that due to the enormous demand on tickets the processing of orders will take it´s time. So please be a bit patient and only call in urgent cases. This will also ensure that Metaltix can keep on processing all orders in time. Thanks for your understanding!

Fans and loyalty were always the heart of the festival!

Biography

solstafir

SÓLSTAFIR have come a long way. Their musical journey started in sounds as pitch black as the volcanic ashes of their Icelandic home in the year 1994 and continuously meandered into something ‘different’. The band’s latest releases “Masterpiece of Bitterness” (2005) and “Köld” (2009) already gained high acclaim from critics and fans alike for their unique mixture of dark Metal, psychedelic phases and eerily rocking groove. Now the quartets burgeoning creativity has been bubbling up like a hot geyser unleashing their breathtaking double album “Svartir Sandar”, which takes the metamorphosis of these individualists close to perfection.

This masterpiece comes with a red hot passion like glowing magma and emotionality as stormy as the wild Northern Atlantic. Aðalbjörn Tryggvason’s gritty vocals grind the soul like an Icelandic gravel field and still carry the dark melancholy of a Nordic winter night. One moment the strings soar like raging flames, the next they spiral with hypnotic force to the capturing pounding of drum and bass. Although there is a tendency of the first part “Andvari” to tend towards the psychedelic, while the second half “Gola” reveals a more rocking outlook, both belong together and never fail to amaze, astonish and surprise. What began with SÓLSTAFIR’s promising 1996 EP “Til Valhallar” and their album debut “I Blodi Og Anda” (2002) now explodes into a mind blowing climax. Ride this volcano with Iceland’s gnarled and twisted cowboys of Rock and Metal!

Enjoy one of the band’s most famous tracks!
